MAINTENANCE

The maintenance of your vehicle is as important as eating healthy food and exercising regularly is for your body. Without regular maintenance your vehicle will get sick and eventually break down. This in turn will lead to major expenses and who can afford such expenses with the high cost of living? Here are a few maintenance tips which you can do yourself in order to extend the life of your vehicle.

      DAILY CHECKS

One of the things that you can do is to check your vehicle daily or at least every second day to make sure that all is well.

* Check the water level of your vehicle. Without water in the cooling system your vehicle will overheat leading to bigger problems.

* Check the oil level at least once a week. Low oil levels will lead to engine damage. Ask your mechanic what oil is being used in your car and top it up with the same grade of oil. Do not overfill as this could be harmful to your engine.

* Check that all your tyres are in a good condition and pumped to the correct bars. Worn tyres can cause a blow-out while you're driving which could lead to an accident.

* Check that all your lights are working, especially your indicators and brake lights.

* Most importantly, listen to your vehicle. Any strange sounds must be adhered to in order to avoid bigger problems. The warning lights on the dashboard are not decorations. They tell you that there is a problem. Failure to adhere to the warning will lead to (you guessed it) bigger problems.

      REGULAR SERVICING

It is of utmost importance that your vehicle is serviced at regular intervals.

Most vehicle manufacturers recommend servicing every 10,000 km for diesel vehicles and every 15,000 km for petrol vehicles. Do not go past these parameters. The oil loses its viscocity causing major wear on your engine parts which will lead to bigger problems. Rather service sooner than go past the recommended parameters.

Most modern vehicles have a built in service schedule which will illuminate on the dashboard of your vehicle when the service period is due. â€‹

During a regular service the mechanic will also be able to report any other repairs which may be required.

       MAJOR REPAIRS

Unfortunately, as with everything else in life, bad things can happen to your vehicle too resulting in major repairs.

Major repairs can be anything from an engine overhaul to a complete gearbox or suspension overhaul. These repairs are costly and most often can be avoided with regular servicing and maintenance.
